[] Send your instrument to repair shop to get it in tip-top shape.
Do this a few weeks ahead so it comes back in time.
[] Purchase a fresh box of reeds.
[] Clean your mouthpiece/head joint.
[] Sharpen and pack 2 pencils in your instrument case.
[] Wash your swab.
Machine wash & dry, but be sure to tie it up in a pillowcase or a mesh laundry bag first!
[] Purchase a new mouthpiece cushion.
Clean your mouthpiece after you take off the old and before you put on the new.
[] Need a new thumb rest cushion or thumb port? Grab a pencil grip and a pair of scissors!
[] Wash your reed guard.
Hand wash or can go in the dishwasher in the silverware basket. Follow up with a soak in 2 parts Listerine, 1 part water. Rinse and dry overnight before using.
[] Go through your reeds and throw out any that are chipped, cracked, or worn.
Replace with enough new ones so there are at least 4 good reeds in your case.
[] Clean out old music from your folder/binder. Remember to keep stuff you’re still using!
[] Wash your neck strap.
Hand wash cold, lay flat to dry.
[] Give your instrument a thorough polishing.
[] Freshen your instrument case.
Take everything out of your case and let it sit open overnight with baking soda sprinkled in it. Vacuum out the baking soda the next day.
